Frequently Asked Questions

Why are some races not ranked?

The most common question is, 'Why is 'My Favourite 10K Road Race' not included in the rankings?'.
Course Certification is a process by which a course is measured according to international standards and the measurement data is reviewed by a recognized certifier. Once the data is verified and accepted, a certificate with a course ID number is sent to the measurer, who then forwards a copy to the race director.
You can read more about the process on the Athletics Canada web site.
The official list of certified races used by RoadRaceRankings.com is found here. Every certified 5K, 8K(5Mile), 10K, Half Marathon and Marathon race in Ontario is included.

Who is eligible for the rankings?

Any Canadian runner living in Ontario will automatically be included in the rankings when the results of a ranked race are received by RoadRaceRankings.com.
A small effort is made to limit this to Canadian runners but based on the tremendous work involved this isn't always feasible.

Why am I placed in a faster age group?

The age group categories used on RoadRaceRankings.com are;
14 and Under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and Over.

Most road races use 5 or 10 year age groups which make is easy to determine which category they should be ranked in.
But some races use other age groups and the only solution is to place the runner in the fastest age group included in the grouping used by the race.
There are two solutions;
1. encourage the race directors to include the actual age or 10 year age group in the results or
2. participate in races that use the standard 5 or 10 year age groups.

How many runners are included in each ranked category?

This is the greatest feature of RoadRaceRankings.com; up to 2000 runners are included.
The average recreational runner will be recognized for their ability.
No other running community in the world has such an extensive rankings system.
